Mom’s & Their Boys

There is something priceless about the relationship between a mom and her boys.

There is a closeness, at least that has been my experience with my own mother and watching Kathy with our two sons.

Mom’s can get away with a lot when it comes to boys.

They can tell them things they don’t want to hear with grace and love that sometimes a father doesn’t have.

We have two boys, Jake and Jess, and the way Kathy looks at them I think it’s the same way God looks at you and me….unconditionally.

She can be stern but never harsh.

She has this ability to put their needs ahead of her own.

When she disagrees with them, they know it, but I don’t see judgement just a desire to be their mother.

Both our sons are amazing cooks.

I don’t remember Kathy ever holding an official cooking class but she was home with them always.

They watched her love of cooking for us and were infected with the same talent and skill.

To this day they compare recipes and argue over ingredients.

I know she loves it.

My boys trust their mom, why wouldn’t they.

She’s flexible after years of bending over backwards to be….their mom.

She gave up a career for peace of mind….choosing to be a full time mom…..making that her preferred career.

I feel the same way about my own mom.

Like Kathy does for our boys, my mom did for me.

She was always for me.

When the world was crashing down, I knew she’d hold me up.

My boys, like me, are lucky.

They have a mom who sees past their flaws and recognizes the gifts they bring to the world.

Now, Jakes wife Grace is about to join the sisterhood of motherhood.

Our first grandson will do what Jake and Jess did for Kathy….show her a side of herself she never knew existed.

That little boy will reveal to his mother why her name is Grace.

To all the mothers out there, thank you for what you do for us.

Thanks for teaching us courage.

Thank you for loving us……no matter what.
