Change Is In The Air

Fall is one of my favorite times of year.
Fall shows us that things are most beautiful right before they die.
Days are warm but quickly cool off.
Green leaves begin to die, and in the process, they turn the brightest shades of red and yellow.
But most of us are a bit fearful of death.
Not just the end-of-life version.
We also shy away from the “fall” that allows old attitudes and ideas the death they deserve.
Fall prepares us for Winter.
Without Fall, things that need to die won’t.
Instead of fear, we should look at Fall as the most beautiful moment because death brings the brightest colors.
Charlie Kirk’s death is bringing this up in my life again.
I remember years ago, going through a difficult time, when a woman sitting in front of me at church turned to me and said, “Rick, allow the things that need to die in your life, to die so that new growth can come in the Spring.. She said,” God is pruning you and that’s painful now, but by Spring you will be changed.”
I was in therapy at the time, trying to figure out who I was.
The death of Charlie Kirk is revealing attitudes and areas of my life that need to fall away.
Humans are good at fighting change even when we want it desperately.
The world wants us to explain, but how can we?
We don’t know the answers yet.
It’s no one’s fault.
It’s not about them; this is about us.
I listened to almost every speaker at Kirk’s memorial.
I felt like God was whispering in my ear to come back.
One of the speakers spoke of sin.
In our culture, sin is a bad word, but actually, it simply means missing the mark.
We all have areas of our lives that miss that mark, at least I hope I’m not alone in that.
As of this writing, I still am unclear as to what needs to change, but am vested in the pursuit of allowing God to reveal them to me.
I believe we are in the battle of our times.
But to hear God, we need to be at his footstool, ready to go.
We can’t do that if we aren’t pruned and free of the things that cause us to miss the mark.
Something is happening in God’s kingdom, and we all need to be ready.
This is the part where I normally wrap things up in conclusion, but I can’t.
I hear God’s voice saying, “You don’t need to, Rick, I’m still pruning.”
As I get ready for my day, I hear Him say, “Hey, Rick, welcome back.”
