What Happened to America First?

America Should Be Our First Priority

Remember, just a few short months ago, our leaders touted the idea of America First?
Our President ran on that idea, and many of us voted on that basis.
It’s not that we don’t care about the rest of the world; we do, but we also understand that spending billions on the needs of other countries, while neglecting those of our own people, is a recipe for disaster.
The last figures I heard America is spending one billion dollars a day on this war with Iran.
One Billion Dollars a Day.
Let that sink in for a minute.
I look around my community and see people in great need.
Gas, food, insurance, house payments, it all adds up.
You look at the conditions in many of our large cities, and it’s obvious we need to pay more attention to what’s going on here than what another country wants us to do for them.
It’s not selfish to take care of one’s own people.
I would argue it’s the right thing to do.
I read a verse out of Proverbs this morning that haunts me even to this moment.
Proverbs 14:1 (ESV): "The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down."
I pray daily for our president and his decision-making. I don’t hate the guy as some of you would like to think.
But I don’t trust his decisions anymore, and that saddens me.
The propaganda and the lies nauseate me.
He promised to bring peace and put the needs of average Americans first.
I believed him, and so did many of you.
Spending one billion a day on a war with Iran is not putting America First.
We can talk about nukes and the threat, but the fact is, if you do your research, the threat is overblown, and the no new wars president started what could turn into World War III.
I scratch my head and wonder what happened.
Why the reversal? What happened to the momentum we had going?
What would make America Great Again would be if we could fix the foundation of our own house before we start trying to repair other countries. Look at our failings; there are plenty, clean house by improving the lives of everyday Americans.
Make housing affordable, get people excited about working, and clean up America.
What is disappointing is that we were on the right track.
Borders were closed, the economy was starting to take off, it looked like the midterms would be in favor of America First, and then, we fell.
I know that God has a plan and He will see it through.
I don’t pretend to know what that plan is, but slaughtering His creation, I doubt, is part of it.
Perhaps we’ve gotten too big for our britches.
Maybe the only way we can get back to following Him, and not a man, is to experience loss.
I hope not.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (NIV). It was originally written to Jewish exiles in Babylon to offer hope during their 70-year captivity.
