Unity? Not Sure

How Do We Unify?

I often hear about unification online.
It comes up most when one party or the other is flailing.
At this moment in time, most of the “Unification” I hear about is coming from the Democrats.
All one has to do is look at their numbers and the popularity of their ideology to figure out why.
I’m back in Eugene/Springfield for a few days and running into lots of friends from the past.
I got into some great conversations with a few of my more liberal buddies, and it was really good.
No, we didn’t get into the weeds, but it felt good.
One of them said to be “Man, people either love or hate you, don’t they, Rick?”
We both laughed.
I was listening to a call-in show on the radio yesterday.
A Republican was talking with the host, saying he wished we had a leader who would bring more unity to the country.
The host made a great point.
How do you bring unity to the country when our positions (left-right) are so opposite?
Some of us feel the borders of our country need to be closed, while others seem to think that’s not important.
Some feel it’s wrong to kill an unborn child, while others think it’s a woman’s right to choose when life begins.
Some feel we need more police on the streets, while others want social workers to do the work of the cops.
These are issues we used to skirt around, but after COVID, people got fed up with being nice and started fighting back.
The list goes on and on.
For many, many years, the direction has gone in favor of the more liberal perspective, but that’s changed.
For those of us who lean more right, the change is a big step in the right direction, while the other side, from what I see online, believes the country is falling apart.
It’s easy to utter the words unity but not consider what that means.
Personally, I’ve seen enough to know compromise is not on the table.
I used to say that word a lot because it sounded good, but I have since learned there is no such thing as compromise when it comes to the far left.
It’s all or nothing for them, so unity is just another word used to control the conversation and bring more division.
I was talking with a few trusted (key word) friends who are more liberal about coming on my podcast and laying out our differences live on air.
We’re excited to see what it reveals.
I was hopeful after talking with both of them, not about unity but civility.
Then I came back to my room, pulled up my social media feed, and looked at the comments.
I will proceed with them because I really trust them, but, honestly, have little hope of any earthshattering “unity.”
My takeaway is this word is just a ruse, another manipulation, a farce.
