TRUST YOUR GUT, NOT THE GUTLESS

There’s nothing wrong with getting advice from people, but who are all these experts?

God has put people in my life, I don't need experts.

As I scroll through my social media feeds, I find advice on everything.

From losing man boobs to flattening your belly in four weeks.

With a computer and a social media page, you can be an expert and know nothing about life.

Remember when people went to the town sage or a priest, pastor, or elder in the community for advice?

Yeah, that doesn’t happen much anymore.

Remember sitting across the table, actually looking someone in the eye, and asking for or getting advice from a real person we knew personally and trusted?

We used to check credentials, now it’s how many followers you have on social media, or your click rate and retention numbers.

I sat on several juries in my lifetime. What you quickly learn is that you can pay anyone to be an expert.

For money, they will tell you or the jury whatever you want to prove your conclusion.

I don’t trust experts.

Remember, most of us lived through COVID, which sure taught us a lot about the medical “experts,” didn’t it?

More recently, economists have been predicting doom and gloom over tariffs.

Everyone seems to have an expert in their back pocket, ready to pull out at any moment to spew their version of the truth.

Perhaps it’s time we trust, not our feelings, but the discernment God gives us and that thing grandma called “your gut.”

What would happen if you didn’t “Google” how to make your marriage better and instead asked your partner for advice?

Perhaps rather than going to the restaurant just featured on Instagram where all the cool people hang out, you stop in at the local dive bar and find out what real people are living with.

You don’t need an expert to figure out life; you need a commodity that is rarer, common sense.

Maybe you are the expert, and all you need is a little help from your friends.
