The Year of Awakening

Writer's picture: Rick DancerRick Dancer

New Year Brings Uncertainty.

Certainty is like a warm, cozy blanket first thing in the morning.

It makes us feel safe, comforted and warm.

It temps us to stay right where we are, no need for adventure, moving, or even getting up.

But life, at least not mine, isn’t like that at all.

As I read the story of Abraham I find his life wasn’t like that either.

Hebrews 11:8

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.”

With a new year there is hope for change but it’s not going to happen without a battle.

Sometimes it’s a battle in your soul, or your mind and sometimes it’s a battle in the public square.

The temptation for me is two fold.

One is to worry.

I stew and work over in my mind all the scenarios that could go wrong. I know, I should focus on the positive but to say that, at least for me, would be utter BS.

The second is lack of trust.

When things get hairy I grab the steering wheel and throw Jesus in the backseat.

In a devotional I read Oswald Chambers calls says this….

“What an Impertinence Worry is!”

Not only is it of no value to worry he say’s it’s rude to our creator!

You and I have an opportunity to work hand in hand with God but often try to “help Him” by taking over the reins.

No wonder joy is so illusive.

God, I think, is like my guide, a co-editor of my story.

He knows the direction it will take if I allow Him to lead and me to simply live.

The next chapter is about to be written. Will you force the ink to flow the way you anticipate or release your grip on the computer screen and allow Him to help you write the greatest story ever told…..Yours.

Welcome to 2025, the year of your great awakening.
