The Power of the Tongue
It is said that life and death are in the power of the tongue.
If true, and I believe it is, what are we speaking about? What are we creating with the things we say?
I don’t think most of us think about or have a clue how much we trap ourselves by the things we say.
Statements like “This will never change” or “it will never happen until such and such happens” are debilitating if you think about it.
This is not some mind game.
There is a spiritual realm and the reality we live in.
Both are very much alive.
We as humans are creators.
Not the creator, but, like our Father, we create things with our hands and feet, our minds, our spirit, and with our tongue.
If we keep saying the world will never change, it won’t.
If we continue to place contingencies on what our God can do, we restrict the power of true change.
I’m not saying God can’t and won’t intervene, but He is a good God and gives us free will.
He has a plan, and you and I don’t get to change that, but we are participants in the process, not spectators.
I’m writing this to me as much as to you.
I limit myself and the power of God because my tongue reveals the lack of faith and trust I have in His plan.
What if we took more control over that wagging muscle that flops around inside our mouths?
What would happen if we stopped listening to the darkness and instead lived in possibilities?

We create our own culture, you and I.
If the state, the country, or the place we live in is not fulfilling, change it.
I was visiting a lumber mill in Philomath this week, where two women realized the power of setting the right culture in the workplace by making that a priority.
But it wasn’t just them; they had buy-in from the board of directors and the folks who work there.
Someone had to speak the truth to get the ball rolling.
In return, they’ve created a place where people want to come to work, feel a part of the team, and are treated with respect.
Oregon could be that place.
Montana could be that place.
Your community could be that place.
You get the picture?
Perhaps we all need to start using our tongues more wisely.
Yes, lies and manipulation need to be called out first.
But we also need to speak life and truth into those around us, into our neighborhoods, our workplaces, and into our own spirits.
We need to call out the darkness by exposing the light with our tongue.
What do you think?
