Stop Limiting What Can Happen (Public Version)

A strong wind blows outside my window.
I sit at my desk, crack open Proverbs.
The words hit me like the force howling outside.
Proverbs 17:27
He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is cool in spirit.
We live in a world where information is just a Google search.
No encyclopedia needed.
God gave us a heart and a brain to be used together to create balance.
But many, including myself, seem to have lost the heart monitor.
We fill our heads with information, and that’s important, but we forget that our true superpower is not information, but our God, who can do anything.
In my prayers, I limit God.
I’ve lost the ability to expect the unexpected.
To dream the big dreams and not worry about how it ends, but trust my maker to build a better crescendo.

When I ignore His warnings and allow my limited nature to rationalize sin, it’s like unplugging the power source from a kitchen utensil and wondering why my life has no juice.
God can do anything, I know that.
But after sixty-six-plus years on this earth, disappointment is real.
I beat myself up for decisions made that, to me, appear to be mistakes.
I serve a God who loves His children and enjoys nothing more than fixing mistakes or turning them into pathways.
On a hike yesterday, we walked through a crack between two large pieces of granite called Refrigerator Canyon.
Pictures don’t do it justice.
It feels like I’m moving through solid rock and into a new chapter.
Attitudes and assumptions are dying.
Some things must pass away for us to see a fresh vision and align ourselves tightly with our creator.
As we headed out of the canyon, after hiking nearly 2000 feet up into the mountains for 10 miles, I saw this tree growing out of a hard piece of granite.
I thought, How does that tree grow out of the rock, with so little soil and nutrients to keep it alive?
I heard God say, “I can do whatever I want, Rick Dancer.”
God can make plants flourish in the desert.
He can make trees sprout out of rocks.
He can part seas with His breath.
He can turn a rod into a snake.
He can turn a nation around and restore goodness and mercy, and silence those who deceive.
Like the tree, all that’s needed is a strong foundation in the right things, enough food to keep you going, and a God who is uncontrollable, unmoveable, and the same yesterday as He was in the beginning.
