The Dance

I’ve often looked at my life as a dance with God.
Perhaps having the last name of Dancer is the reason…lol.
To dance means we have to be close to our partner, really close
Dancing is an intimate action.
You can’t be concerned with what others think; when you dance, it ruins everything.
Someone has to lead, and when we dance with God, I don’t need to tell you who comes first.
If you are like me, my dance with God involves me stepping on His toes, a lot.
I don’t follow well.
My nature pushes me to try to take over.
As any good partner, He allows me to step on His toes here and there, but at some point, He will take control of the dance.
When I read what the author of the letter I posted on this blog said, it quiets my soul.
Guidance. G is for God. I is, you and me, and what does God give his Guidance to, the dance.”
It’s an invitation to have the most intimate relationship with the one who created everything.
That’s a big deal.
As a guy with the last name of Dancer, this has special meaning, even prophetic implications for me.
I’m preparing to leave one dance floor as I look for another.
God does not call any of us to be wallflowers.
He doesn’t want us sitting out the dance or standing on the sidelines, out of fear of “the dance.”
Remember in middle school when we had dance as part of our P.E. class?
I know, that was a long time ago.
The toughest part was finding someone to dance with and getting the courage to ask.
God wants to be our partner.
He’s ready to guide us, teach us, and love us.
He will pursue, but we do need to ask.
I end this dance with the words from an amazing song.
My friends, I hope that when God asks, you choose to dance.
“I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin' might mean takin′ chances, but they're worth takin'
Lovin′ might be a mistake, but it′s worth makin'
Don′t let some hell-bent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to sellin' out, reconsider
Give the Heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
chorus
I hope you dance.”
