Death & Life Are In The Power Of The Tongue

Proverbs 18:21

Our tongue can create life, or it can speak death into existence.

As we watch hypocrisy and corruption rise to the surface in our nation’s capital and in our state government, the temptation is to hang our heads, cover our ears, and say things like “It will never get better.”

That is exactly what the enemy of our souls is hoping for.

I’m not talking about positive thinking, persay, but what we utter from our lips matters.

Like our creator, we, too, create, not just with our hands and hearts, but we create by speaking things into existence.

If you tell a kid he’s bad, chances are you will get a bad kid.

The things we focus on matter.

The words we speak bring life or death.

I get as frustrated with all the lies and manipulation in our culture right now as you do.

I have well-meaning people trying to analyze us.

No harm, no foul.

God has a plan for your life.

Stay steady, move forward.

But others seek to twist and turn our intentions to their way of thinking for purposes that have nothing to do with the truth.

We each have a calling that’s as individual as our DNA.

That calling is between our creator and us.

In Proverbs 19:5, it says: “A false witness does not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies does not escape.”

When we speak truth, as we see it, notice those who come after us with labels and harsh words.

It’s easy to get sucked into the drama, I know, I falter often.

What the enemy wants is for us to join in the death chorus.

Nothing robs us of our power and our peace more than singing along.

Instead, we must harmonize by speaking life into the melody.

Point out what’s going wrong, but end the song with all that is going well.

We are the change.

We can bring back truth and crush the lies.

But that won’t happen by speaking death or joining the choir of despair.
