Sometimes You Can’t Be Understood

We live in a culture that has this need to be understood.
I know because for decades, being misunderstood was the end of the world for me.
I hated to be misunderstood until I realized, some people just won’t, don’t, and refuse to like you.
I see folks get into arguments and wonder why.
My experience has taught me that certain people don’t want to listen to us; they want to debate, belittle, or win us over.
I’m not interested in any of the three.
I love a good conversation, you know, where you speak, they speak, you find something interesting you can talk about, and so on.
No one wants to be lectured, pressured, and coerced into anything.
So why not just find things you agree on and talk about that?
There is a huge divide in this country.
Whose to blame doesn’t really matter, does it?
What if that divide is meant to be?
For decades, those of us who lean more to the right have tolerated what we honestly think is the wrong direction.
When we did say things, we were quickly silenced, labeled, and discredited.
Now the tide is turning as others are starting to see the degradation of society.
This is not one thing but a combination of many.
During COVID and the Biden administration, we saw how our freedoms could be taken away, and you, yes, you did us a huge favor by waking us up.
Power will do that.
When authority pushes too far, lines get crossed and people revolt.

I find that often my opposition calls me or accuses me of exactly what they are.
You label me divisive because you divide.
It’s deflection.
You accuse us of destroying democracy because you already have.
You label us racists when, in fact, you are the ones who make everything about race.
You just pick and choose the color of the moment, but deep inside your fingers are pointing right back at you.
The other day, I got into a conversation with a guy who I’m guessing sees the world more liberally than I see it.
We didn’t talk about our differences.
We talked about lack of sleep, why we live to work rather than work to live, and how sad it is that we’ve created a culture that worships those who produce and shuns those who are seen as less productive.
Oh, and he is black and I’m white, we could see that, so no need to bring it up. Hint
Yeah, I think it’s time we stop explaining ourselves.
State the truth, listen to others, make up your own mind, and own it.
The way people used to be.
The way it should be.
The way it can be.
