Just A Small Bit Of Light

It Doesn’t Take Much Light To Expose the Truth

Proverbs: 13:9 “The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wrong is put out.”
In the famous lace shops in Brussels, there are rooms dedicated to weaving the finest, most delicate patterns. The rooms are completely dark except for a small light that shines on the area where the pattern is woven. That tiny bit of light sharpens the weaver’s focus; too much light would ruin everything.
The same is true in our lives.
Sometimes we only need a small amount of light in the darkest places to do the work we’re called to do.
We think, if only we knew more, if only we could see the whole picture, how much easier it would be to do our work.
But God is not looking for ease; He wants to fulfill our lives.
He understands how much vision to give and how much to hold back because only He sees the larger tapestry we are weaving with Him.
I wish I could remember this when darkness falls and I start to worry (sin) about what’s ahead.
I fall into temptation and turn on the overhead light, thinking, "More light will settle my spirit."
But it never does.
It’s easy to get caught up in the noise of the day.
We’re so focused on what’s not happening, we forget to see the small wins, rejoice, and celebrate progress in this country.
A new friend of mine wrote the other day.
His focus has been on speaking out about some issues that overshadow the real problems our nation faces.
As often happens, the spotlight turns back on him, and the unrighteous try to destroy him.
In these moments, we must focus not on what might happen if we turn on the overhead light, but instead keep our eyes on weaving one small pattern, trusting that God will incorporate that patch into the larger tapestry.
The Proverb quoted at the start of this writing tells us that the righteous need to rejoice.
We don’t celebrate enough, as small changes turn into big revolutions.
Those who seek and share truth shouldn’t work to snuff out the lamps of the wrong; they’ll do that themselves.
Our mission is to shed more light on the darkest corners of our communities, states, and country.
In tough moments, remind yourself that it doesn’t take much to expose the truth.
And don’t listen to the noise screaming in your ears as you connect another tiny thread in your pattern.
