Free Speech, Pick & Choose?

Free Speech, Pick & Choose?

People have no idea what free speech is.

It’s rather frightening how ignorant and weak we’ve become as a society.

54% of liberals and 40% of Democrats view the slaying of Charlie Kirk as “understandable,” according to a recent poll.

I guess, to them, that justifies the public execution of Charlie Kirk because, in their words, he “was speaking hateful words?”

Most overall respondents disagreed, correctly asserting that Charlie “was peacefully and respectfully debating people, and it is a tragedy that he was murdered.”

Who gets to decide what is hateful and what is acceptable speech?

Not what do the courts say, but what happens when your opinions no longer line up with society and you are muzzled?

What if you are not allowed to express your ideas because someone or a group of someones gets to cancel you by shutting you up?

When you Google hate speech, this is what you get.

“hate speech” refers to offensive discourse targeting a group or an individual based on inherent characteristics (such as race, religion, or gender) and that may threaten social peace.

Wow, that’s pretty vague and leaves a wide-open door for anyone to accuse you of hate speech.

No wonder we’re in the place we find ourselves in.

I don’t believe people should hate anyone based on any of those things.

But I think hate is in the eye of the beholder.

Could Charlie Kirk’s murder qualify as a hate crime?

His killer and those who found it “understandable” found his speech threatening to social peace.

What about Jesus?

When He spoke against societal norms, was that hateful?

During COVID, many of us were called hate mongers, and the Biden Administration and social media giants censored our speech.

Just yesterday, Google admitted that Biden and his staff coerced the media companies into such action.

Remember President Biden? He was the guy fighting to protect "democracy". What a joke.

Now we discover my speech was not hate but factually based.

Science proves we were speaking the truth.

You can disagree, but what if my friends started labeling you “Haters” and canceled you?

This is a slippery slope.

Free speech appears to be the weapon of choice when it comes to trying to control a narrative.

Authoritarians love to weaponize our speech.

Culture is fickle.

What is rational one day becomes hateful the next.

That is not free speech.

What troubles me is how weak we have become as people.

We are offended by everything and anything.

There are consequences for using our free speech rights.

We can be canceled, we can lose business, we can lose friends, but we should never lose our voice or ability to use it, especially if our language challenges culture.

I know there are those of you who disagree with me, and that’s your right.

If we use your free speech guidelines, you might lose that right. How does that sound?

What does it say about a society where so many people polled can understand why someone like Charlie Kirk was publicly murdered for peacefully speaking his mind?

What happens when it’s you who disagrees with the masses?
