Crazy Mountain Ranch Adventure

I love the Crazy Mountains in Montana.
I don’t know what it is about them that calls to me but they definitely do.
At a time in my life when uncertainty seems to be the weekly theme, a trip into the backcountry helps sooth my soul.

Jess, our youngest, started working this amazing ranch for some Winter hours.
It used to be owned by Phillip Morris company, yeh those tobacco people.
But a few years ago the folks who own “The Yellowstone Club” bought all 18k plus acres at the base of the Crazies.

This is not some ghost town out in the middle of nowhere although it is way the hell out there.
This is a fancy, expensive place to play.
Just to be a member costs 1.5 million I think.
No, we’re not members the only reason we’re there is the new management is super open to employee’s bringing family out to play.
There’s a little western town and most of the buildings are hotel rooms.
But there’s also restaurants, shops and all kinds of activities.
You can ride horse, bike, snow bike, snow mobile, cross country ski or backcountry ski.
The next phase is a golf course and clubhouse with rooms for guests.
One of the cool things about this place is a lot of the acreage is put in a conservation designation and even the developed parts will never be homes or over developed. The space will always be about the Crazies.
They groom trails and we had a ball. The sun never did come out and the Crazies were shy that day hiding behind clouds for our entire visit.
But we’ll be going back.
People will come here and hopefully leave with an appreciation, not necessarily about the rugged nature of Montana. But they will get the chance to rub elbows with God, nature and the things money won’t buy. We could all use a little more of that I guess huh?
