The Key Is Consistent Pressure

When you injure yourself, the key to complete healing is applying consistent pressure to the wound.
The same is true when it comes to turning around a culture.
Kathy and I went on a hike the other day that forced me to dig deep, really deep.
I’m not great with heights.
This hike was 2k feet practically straight up the entire time.
For those who have height problems, you know the feeling.
I’ve never had a panic attack that I know of, but the sense of fear I get when I get in that place is a bit overwhelming.
There were several points where I wanted to turn around and head down, but no one wants to be that guy in front of your wife.
I take deep breaths, look straight forward, and try not to think about how high we are.
Hikes like that are not relaxing for me because the entire time I’m keeping the pressure on the wound that left me with this fear.
I face it full-on, and when I’m done, I feel bad because I get like that, but feel good that I finished most of the hike.

We are living in a world culture that is putting all of us to the test right now.
We are finally making great headway in terms of defining right and wrong.
We are redrawing lines and prioritizing truth as we sort through fiction.
As that happens, the former definition recreators scramble to try to hold the territory slipping between their fingers.
We must keep focus and keep our eyes forward to see where we are going.
We must not look back at what was because that’s the past, and it is gone.
Keep the pressure on and remember the top of the mountain isn’t that far.
Fighting your way to the top may hurt, but it won’t kill you.
Yes, there will be voices stroking your nervous system, taunting you to turn around…but don’t.
On a bike ride the other day, two guys from Idaho were talking with us about all the changes to Boise.
They were lamenting “the good old days” when Idaho was a place focused on truth and free living.
I thought to myself, 'We let this happen, and we can change that.'
We are changing it, one headline at a time.
The key is consistent, unwavering pressure applied properly.
