Come On Donald

It’s hard for those of us who support much of what President Trump is doing to restore our country to be critical of the man.
Not because we agree with him all the time.
Not because he doesn’t make mistakes that cause us to cringe.
But because some of you are so blinded by hate for the guy, you jump all over us for critiquing him.
You and the media jump to your own conclusions that we are turning against his agenda, when in fact, that is wishful thinking on your part. So, put your fangs back in your mouth and read on.
Trump adding his name to the Kennedy Center is pretty stupid.
It reeks of arrogance, and it sends the wrong message to the American people.
It makes him look petty.
And before you say “he is,” remind yourself that you, too, have that same proclivity.
But that said, the reaction from the haters and the legacy media is hilarious.
Does it surprise anyone that he did this?
No.
Does it somehow signal Trump is planning to take over the world?
No.
And if you think so, you are not dealing in reality and falling for the media narrative designed to sell papers and ad time on 60 minutes.
Former President JFK is not going to lose any sleep over it, and neither should we.
Oh, and I think it’s fair to call him out on it.
But don’t make up stories; call him out because it’s ego-driven and is petty.
I produced a story on a long-time donor to the University of Oregon.
The university wanted to name a building after him, to which he said, “That is the G-d Damn most expensive tombstone I’d rather create an endowment to educate students.”
And he did.
My great-grandfather gave money to Linfield University to buy the land for the football field.
A few decades ago, a bigger donor stepped in, and Linfield tried to rename the field.
People came unglued, and that field is still named “Maxwell Field.”
My point, Parker Stadium at Oregon State University was changed to Reser Stadium because a bigger donor came along.
Putting names on buildings and streets is stupid and can be changed, but that doesn’t change the impact someone has on the world we live in.
What’s frustrating to me about Trump’s renaming the Kennedy Center is, it takes away from the work he’s doing to restore America.
It gives more fuel to the haters.
He knows that, and the reaction you give him, egg him on.
I wonder if Trump isn't so immune to his critics' tactics that he's pushing the envelope because he can.
When I was a kid, and the town bully picked me as his target, my mom would tell me not to pay attention because it gave him the upper hand, and if I paid less interest in his jabs, at some point, he'd stop.
Trump is a human being with many flaws, but so are you and I.
Some of you freaked out when he started building the big, beautiful ballroom, something presidents before him admitted was needed.
In that case, he won't even benefit from it because it won't be finished until he's out of office.
And he and donors are paying for it.
If this were a Democrat president, you and I'd be paying for it with our tax dollars, and you know it.
Yes, he'll probably name it after himself to trump his opposition.
Trump has a big ego, he's arrogant, and a bit narcissistic, but really, what president hasn't been?
Perhaps if the media and his rivals stopped poking the bear, he might not get the attention to keep going.
But still, he’s the one digging a hole, and in the end, it will catch up with him.
The Bible warns us repeatedly of stories about good people, good kings, and amazing leaders whose arrogance left a lasting mark on their leadership.
I still support much, not all, of what he's doing to bring our country back and set us straight.
But when he does something like this, it makes me want to scream.
Not because I think he's a bad guy, but it reminds me how easily we each can allow our service to become self-serving.
