Can Culture Turn Back?

Can Culture Ever Go Back?

ree

I wasn’t a huge fan of Rob Reiner as a person, but his murder saddens me.

No one deserves that.

His murder should cause pause for each of us as we examine the cruelty and frustration that seem to weave their way into almost every aspect of our current culture.

It’s terrible and is a reminder of how violent and enraged our society has become.

The response from some has also been vile, including our President, who should have kept his mouth shut and his fingers off the keyboard, but instead had to make a point, which was disappointing to say the least.

The killings in Australia, the gunman at Brown University, it’s all distressing and reminds us that the world is unraveling.

There’s a lot of pent-up anger just below the surface, threatening to destroy the fabric of what once made this a great country.

We can and will blame anyone but ourselves for the societal decay we are witnessing.

We traded morality for pleasure.

We watered down “The Truth” for “My Personal Truth,” which isn’t truth at all, just a little white lie dressed up with bows and ribbons.

We blame inanimate objects like guns and the internet for the actions human beings take and wonder why personal responsibility is no longer a consideration for the decay of culture.

Rather than doing the hard work it takes to repent and return to tough love, we continue to lower expectations and offer sympathy to criminals and lawbreakers.

The Rule of Law is a joke in America.

Rather than uphold the laws we already have on the books, our “esteemed” leaders bend and twist the rules for themselves, their fellow lawmakers, and the elite, but throw the book at “regular folks” for doing the same thing.

Journalists no longer challenge double speak and double standards, but are seen as a means to an end.

We refuse to call out our leaders for lying, cheating, and ignoring the wishes of the people, and now it’s all coming to a head.

Language is the new weapon of choice.

Words destroy, mame, and mutilate as much as other, more visible instruments of destruction.

But words can be twisted and denied to protect the guilty.

The more I learn about the wickedness in high places, the more I understand this is not a battle of flesh and blood but something much deeper.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (ESV): "For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ."
