Affordable Housing Crisis

The Crisis Over Affordable Housing

Cause & Effect

ree

So many of the problems plaguing our country right now were caused by the very people who claim to want to fix them.

A friend just sent me an article he wrote on the housing crisis.

I’m going to have him on the show next month to talk about his findings.

When I was a reporter, we often discussed the scarcity of buildable land in the county where I lived in Oregon.

At the time, and that’s pre-2008, Lane County was 20 years behind in planning for urban growth.

The progressives were the ones putting up roadblocks and refusing to consider expansion, even though all the statistics showed the area was desperate for housing.

Here we are in 2025, and those same progressive leaders are crying for more housing.

Look at immigration.

Creating a more efficient plan for immigration has been put on the back burner for decades.

Then, under the Biden administration, 10 to 20 million people were not just allowed into our country, but given free room and board and more access to healthcare than those of us who pay for it and live here legally.

Those same progressive folks, who turned a blind eye to what was happening, or worse, supported it, are now trying to make those of us who speak out against it the problem.

We wonder why our kids can’t afford to buy a home.

Many experts point to illegal immigration as part of the problem.

Yet, still, people like Oregon’s governor throw money at the problem, money that does nothing.

The problem is, the chickens have come home to roost.

Those who caused these problems, on purpose or out of ignorance and refusal to heed the warnings, are being exposed.

Oh, they will continue to deflect, point fingers, and water down the facts to support their claims, but much of America has lost its tolerance for ignorance and no longer cares about the narrative and instead wants the truth.

There are many other causes for the housing crisis.

Development charges are created by the same city leaders who claim to want to bring housing costs down.

The cost of timber is high right now because of all the restrictions placed on the industry by people who want to protect an owl over people.

Turns out people weren’t the problem for the owl; it was another owl, and now the solution they say is to murder thousands of birds.

There are other causes for sure.

I leave that up to the experts.

Feel free to share your opinions, but when tempted to belittle others’ thoughts or ideas, just don’t.

Give your two cents without having to take away from others’ opinions or facts.

These are just a few of the issues I saw come up in my years reporting on the issue.

There is a cause and effect for everything we do.

You can’t say you want to solve a problem and ignore that your ideology is what created the mess.
