A Nation That's Strayed

Have We As A Nation Strayed?

I crack open my Bible to the book of Jeremiah.
Jeremiah wasn’t the most beloved prophet; in fact, from what I read, he was probably a pain in the butt.
In Chapter Five, he relays a message from God to the people about righteousness.
God’s people had strayed, and finding one righteous man was difficult.
The people didn’t care about right rulings or the truth.
God was pissed at them for turning from Him and taking on false doctrine.
He was warning them of an ass kicking that was coming.
This story sounds all too familiar.
Our leaders today often ignore the laws, laws that people like them actually helped institute.
They don’t seem to care about the truth, just what gets them ahead or more power.
The judicial system is a joke.
Our legislative body is bought and paid for by lobbyists for selfish gain.
We, the People, aren’t much better.
New York City is just days away from electing Zohran Mamdani to be mayor of the largest city in the country.
He’s like a kid in middle school, running for student body president, offering free this and that, and no way to pay for it.
Oh, he says they’ll tax the rich, but the wealthy will leave the city, as will many others.
He tickles the ears of the naive and, if elected, will, in the opinion of many, destroy New York City.
I wonder if that will be a huge turning point.
Maybe the people need to get what they are asking for to realize what their wishes really mean.
I think God is drawing a line in the sand.
You hear about a “divide” in our country.
People like to say we need unity, but maybe that’s coming later.
How do you partner with unrighteousness?
Perhaps our maker is drawing sharp lines between good and evil.
No more blending and bleeding over, watering down truth, little white lies, and obvious manipulation.
As the bottom begins to fall out and truth tattles on the liars, there’s not a lot of middle room or room to wiggle.
The pendulum has definitely swung, and culture is turning on the manipulators of truth.
Freedom is costly.
Freedom takes work.
My entire lifetime, up until the last five years, freedom was free to me.
Not anymore.
If you keep reading the story of Jeremiah and God’s people of the time, what comes next is not a fairytale ending.
There is a hope and a future, but there’s a great fall with an enormous cost that comes first.
