46 & 42, Life As A Team

42 years ago today, Kathy and I stood before a minister, family, friends, and, most importantly, God, as we vowed to each other in a partnership called marriage.
We met 46 years ago when my twin sister introduced us to each other.
We have two amazing sons, Jake and Jess.
A daughter-in-law we adore named Grace.
And in less than a month, we will have our first grandchild.

We’ve survived the death of our parents, heartache, disappointments, and failure.
We were on the same page during the pandemic, left Oregon together to start the next chapter in Montana.
And now, as the world’s complexities become more laser-focused, we are more together than ever.

Kathy and I are a team.
We are not perfect.
But we are here for each other for better or for worse.

42 years ago, when we said “I do,” we had no idea what we were in for.
God was calling us to an adventure, and we thought it was just another step in building a relationship.

Life is about to change again as we welcome a new boy into our world.
He will have grandparents who love him unconditionally and will spoil him rotten.
I hope we can teach him to love adventure and fear nothing.
It’s interesting to look back at this day 42 years ago.
Two naive people, Kathy dressed in white and I in tails, looking young and misty-eyed.

We had no idea what was coming.
I love that about God.
He shows/tells us just enough to keep us interested, so life is the surprise it should be.
To all of you who have not yet found your life partner, stay open to adventure and never close the door to something new.
For those who have vowed their lives to someone else, don’t allow complacency to take hold.
To have a truly remarkable life takes effort and commitment.
Kathy, I love you so much.
You are an amazing mother, a great wife and partner, and I can’t wait to see the look on your face when you meet our “Tiny Dancer.”
Cheers to us.
Thank you to our boys.
And God…we’ll I just can’t thank you enough.
